The annual Class of 1970 Lecture Series is funded by a generous donation from the Rutgers College Class of 1970. It was launched in 2006 by Frances Egan, Peter Klein, and Robert McGarvey, then an officer of the Class of 1970, with two goals in mind: to expose the Rutgers undergraduate community to some of the top philosophical thinkers in the world, and to provide a model of what alumni can do to directly benefit the education experience of undergraduates. The lectures are organized and run exclusively by a committee of undergraduate philosophy majors chosen annually on the basis of faculty recommendations and GPAs. The committee chooses and invites the lecturer, makes the logistical arrangements, hosts the lecturer during the visit, introduces them at the lecture, moderates the Q&A session, and takes the lecturer to dinner.
