Title: Governing an Unruly World
Abstract: Philosophers often distinguish between governing and non-governing theories of laws of nature. Governing laws are thought to constrain, guide, or produce specific events. While there are many theories of deterministic governance, less attention has been paid to how indeterministic laws govern events (if they do). I have three objectives in this paper: 1. To examine the motivations for an account of indeterministic governance, 2. To outline desiderata for an account of indeterministic governance, and 3. To sketch a novel framework for understanding indeterministic governance.
