Liz Camp has been elected Vice President of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association. She will serve as vice president during 2026-27, and then as President during 2027-28.
Camp is Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers. Her work ranges widely, but centers especially on the philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and aesthetics. Her research focuses on thoughts and utterances that don’t fit a standard model of minds as rule-governed engines for compiling and transforming information, and language as a medium for expressing propositions to share information, but instead are contextually varying, holistic, expressive, and intuitive. In recent work, she has taken up phenomena including nicknames, stories, insinuation, sarcasm, slurs, maps, and metaphors. She will give the Jean Nicod Lectures in the Fall of 2026, in connection with her forthcoming book, Framing for Perspective: Tools for Making Meaning.
