(1913-1989)

Joseph Neyer was a long-serving professor at Rutgers (from 1947-1989). He was chair from 1953 to 1965, a key period in the department’s history as Rutgers was transitioning from its private college roots to officially becoming the State University of New Jersey in 1956. Neyer had wide-ranging interests, but was particularly interested in the search for peace in the Middle East and the work of Emile Durkheim.
