Stephen P. Webb
(1969-1998)

Steve Webb was a graduate student in our department who earned his Ph.D. in 1998. He was interested in both metaphysics and the philosophy of mind but most of all in the philosophy of logic. He successfully completed a dissertation in the latter area by exploring the feasibility of a highly unorthodox (and by his own account, crazy-seeming) metaphysics in which distinctions in thought are always matched by distinctions in objects, working originally with Vann McGree and (after McGee departed for MIT) finishing with Barry Loewer. After Rutgers Steve took a job at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He passed away at an untimely age in 1998, and is survived by his wife Ann and his daughter Abigail.
