Mission Statement
Arete: The Undergraduate Philosophy Journal of Rutgers University was founded to recognize original philosophical thought at the undergraduate level. Our dedicated staff of editors carefully reviews each submission. If your paper is accepted, you will work with our editorial board to prepare your submission for publication.
The Selection Process (Fall)
Our selection process consists of two phases: first, the editorial board discards those papers unfit for publication; then, viable candidates for publication will be reviewed in further detail by our undergraduate editors. When appropriate, graduate students and faculty are consulted. Based on the recommendations of those involved, a selection of circa 3-5 of the best submissions will enter the editorial process. At this point (December) in the process, all authors will be notified of our final decisions.
The Editorial Process (Spring)
Upon completion of the selection process, a team of editors will be assigned to each accepted submission. Each team of editors will work with the author to ensure that the paper meets Arete's publication standards. During this time, authors will be expected to maintain regular correspondence with our editors; those authors who fail to respond in a timely fashion run the risk of losing the opportunity to have their work published.
