Biography

Marc Lange specializes in philosophy of science and related areas of metaphysics and epistemology, including parts of the philosophy of physics, philosophy of biology, and philosophy of mathematics. He is especially interested in what it is to be a law of nature, the confirmation of scientific theories and mathematical conjectures, non-causal scientific explanations of various kinds, and explanatory proofs in mathematics. Before coming to Rutgers, Marc held positions in the philosophy departments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; the University of Washington, Seattle; and the University of California, Los Angeles. His degrees are from Pittsburgh (Ph.D., 1990) and Princeton (A.B., 1985).
