Biography

I received my Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1981. I began teaching at Rutgers in 1980 and, except for several visiting positions, I have remained here. I work on the mind-body problem and various metaphysical and epistemological problems concerning the mind. I also work on philosophy of science type issues concerning psychology, in particular, computational psychology. (I am a member of the Executive Committee of the Rutgers Cognitive Science Center.) In metaphysics, I work on supervenience, emergence, and the nature of colors. And I have done joint work with Vann McGee on vagueness.
